Wednesday 28 August 2019 – RACE DAY 1

Walvis lights from the Guano island at 6h50am .

First horses heading to the turning point to return home.

Namibia heavyweights seem to be dominating at this stage and have two riders that have fallen out.

Sunette Burnett and Leonie van Nieuwenhuizen after the second leg .

Leaders will be going out on last leg a little after 15:00. This year there are only 4 legs compared to 5 in the past. A comment is that , the horses have had less rest opportunities this year.

The finish was a 3 horse race , very close together. 
First 413 – Sune Wessels, Second 5774 – Melissa Boehme, Third 417 – Josef Namseb
Fourth 414 – Reni v d Merwe
Fifth – Agies Mohale 416.

Last night wind was blowing like crazy. This morning it is cool with mist.

Prediction is 18 degrees C on Wednesday

Below you can see the horses being vetted , tomorrow the ride starts!

The skies are clear and it is warm, but a wind is coming up, like yesterday. the prediction is 12 degrees C when race starts, rising to about 14 midday, and 16 later afternoon with wind again in afternoon. At present feels cool in get gate, although sun is shining.

They are checking about 134 horses to determine how many will start.

Departure lists for tomorrow’s ride. Riders can still make changes Untill 8 tonight at Pieter van Zyl Timekeeper.
